Introduction

Hello Everyone,

My name is Olivia Cameron. I am a junior at the University of Oklahoma. I am studying psychology/ pre-nursing. I am from Bentonville, Arkansas. Before moving to Norman I had lived in Bentonville my entire life and only moved homes. I love the town of Bentonville, it has so much to offer. One of my favorite spots from my cute hometown is the Holler, it is a coffee shop/ hangout area that is great for studying and fun for a game of shuffle board.

Although I adore Bentonville, I want to travel as much as possible. I studied abroad in Italy with PCS (Presidents Community Scholars) the summer going into my sophomore year of college. My time abroad uncovered a love for traveling that I didn’t know I had. I am someone who likes to be spontaneous and do things out of my comfort zone. My dream is to do travel nursing and work in places all around the United States or even in a different country. I hope to one day return to Italy.

My passion for healthcare started at a young age. Growing up my neighbor was a dermatologist who owned her own practice, I spent a lot of time with her and around the dermatology office. It didn’t take long for my love of all things skin to form.

My family consist of my dad, mom, and sister. My dad and mom were high school sweethearts and have been dating since the age of 13. My dad’s name is Vandy and my mom’s name is Mandy…yes I know they rhyme. My dad is a vendor for Wal-Mart and my mom is a special education teacher. My sister is 16 years old and her name is Abigail. Abigail and I are very close, people often mistake us for each other because we look so much alike.

Here is a picture of my family. (personal photo)

I hope you enjoyed getting to know a little about me!

  1. Hey Olivia! You weren't kidding when you said you look like your sister! I have a sister close in age too, but we look nothing alike. People will know us individually and not even suspect that we are related. I love your passion for health care and I hope you can achieve all your career goals! I couldn't imagine being a dermatologist, but I do love watching those pimple/cyst popping videos. Italy is a magical place, I've been to Rome and Florence but I want to explore other cities, too! Looking forward to what else you'll contribute this semester!

  2. Hi Olivia, your hometown coffee shop sounds pretty cool! I see you also got the traveling bug, I feel the same way about going back overseas. I’m sure if you are fascinated by dermatology you’ve heard of Dr. Pimple Popper. My boyfriend and I like to watch her videos when we’re hanging out, since it can be pretty interesting and informative.

  3. Hi Olivia, that's really cool that you studied abroad in Italy. I really want to travel to France someday. I can totally relate to wanting to travel, because I want to travel and teach. You and your sister are so pretty and you really do look like twins! Pyschology is such an interesting subject to study. I hope you enjoy majoring in it.

  4. What a great name for a coffee shop, Olivia! And of course coffee culture in Italy is such a pleasure: I studied at the University of Siena in graduate school, and it was so nice to know that just a few minutes' walk away in any direction I would find a cappuccino. I never put sugar in my coffee in the U.S. but I always put a little sugar in my coffee in Italy... so now when I want to give myself an Italian flashback, I can just add a little sugar to my coffee. And I recognize Abigail from your topics brainstorm now too: it's nice to see a picture with the both of you now that I know how you share the name!

  5. Hello, Olivia! It is nice to read about how much you love your hometown! It is great to know that we have another dedicate nurse on the way. I am curious to know if you plan on being a specialty nurse with your love of all things skin. I wonder how many different places you are going to visit in your lifetime!

  6. Hi Olivia,

It was so great to read your introduction. I am from NE Oklahoma, so I frequently travel around the Bentonville area and I love it, too. I think it is awesome that you were in PCS (so was I). I hope you have an awesome semester and best of luck with your nursing studies in the future.

  7. Hi Olivia,
It's so cute that your mom and dad were high school sweethearts and that their names rhyme (that's how you know you're meant to be). I love travelling and think it's so cool you want to be a travelling nurse when you graduate! I know the pain of people mistaking me for my younger sister. It used to drive me nuts in high school but now I think it's funny. Best of luck with the rest of your semester!

  8. Hey Olivia!
I hope your time in Norman has been a good experience so far!! How was being on PCS? I see the shirts all around campus, but nobody has really told me much about them.
As a psych major myself, I’m curious to know what your experience in the department has been like. What were some of your most and least favorite classes?

Best of luck completing your studies here!

  10. Hi Olivia,

Great to see that you uncovered a passion for traveling. I've always wanted to visit Italy, one of my bucket list items is looking at the Fresco paintings in roof of the Sistine Chapel. I hope you had a great time. I got family around the Betonville that I used to visit, it's really nice around there. Look forward to reading your stories throughout the semester.

    Best,
    Kevin.

  11. Hey again Olivia!
Loved the description of Bentonville. Made me reminisce of hometowns and all that they can offer us growing up. It is awesome that you had so much involvement with a field that you now wish to pursue. We are very lucky when we are able to get experience like that through members of our communities (like neighbors!)

  12. Hey Olivia!

That's so cool that you grew up in Bentonville. I actually know someone from near there! I've only been to Arkansas once, to go to Eureka Springs. I thought it was beautiful! Do you plan to go back there after you graduate, or do you plan on traveling more first? I really enjoyed getting to know more about you and your family! Thanks!

  13. Hey Olivia,

Travel nursing sounds like a blast! I can't think of a better way to experience different parts of the US than by being a travel nurse. From what I understand you would spend a few months to a year in one place then on to the next? I am a bit jealous of your Italy trip. I'm hoping to travel there before too long.

    Good luck,
    Brady

  14. Hi Olivia!
I also travelled with PCS to Italy! What a fun trip! It also showed me how much I enjoy traveling and exploring new cultures and places. I love that you have a passion for healthcare, I think that's very helpful to love what you are pursuing! I hope you have a great rest of the semester and I am eager to learn more about you! Good Luck! -Madee

  15. Hey Olivia,

That's so cool that you got to travel to Italy! You found such a cute little garden there! I also got to visit Italy while studying abroad, and it has been one of my favorite vacations so far. The story about your parents is pretty cute. It is so sweet that they were able to find someone so soon in their life!

  16. Hey Olivia!
I'm also a huge fan of travel! I've been to much of the United States and Ireland so far, with Japan coming next month. I hope to visit a lot more of Europe in the future, Italy included! I might have to go looking for that garden (or a similar one) when I do - it's absolutely gorgeous! Best of luck this semester!

  17. Hey Olivia!

If I remember correctly, I already read through your intro once before so I figured I’d just check in and see how your semester is going so far! (Also, I forgot to mention las time that I’m super jealous that you got to study abroad). What has been the best part of your semester so far? Have you written anything in this course that you’re especially fond of?
Best of luck in these last few weeks!

  18. Hey Olivia,

That is so cool that you were able to go to Italy to study abroad with President's Community Scholars! I'm actually going there this summer with President's Leadership Class , and I was able to attend the same trip with PLC last year, so I hope it is as amazing as I remember it to be! One of my good friends and my favorite high school teachers are both from Bentonville, so it must be a pretty cool place! I hope your semester is great!

  19. Hey Olivia!

I'm sorry for just now getting to know you so late in the semester. Travelling to Italy must have been such a cool experience; everyone I know who has gone to study in Arezzo absolutely loved it. Also, I was in PCS too for a while during my freshman year in 2016. I had to quit due to other commitments but I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with the group (Kari is as good as they come). I think its great how you were able to stay involved.

  20. Hey Olivia,

I love Italy and I am so pumped that you got to experience it with PCS, a really great and cool community of people. I was in PLC my freshman year and also got to go to Italy with OU, and it is a really special trip that I cherished! I think it's awesome that you are hoping to get into the medical field and I hopefully will be able to, as well! Good luck with finals! You'll kill them, I know it!
