Reading Notes: The Book of Saints and Friendly Beasts, Part B

While reading The Book of Saints and Freindly Beasts by Abbie Farwell there was a couple set of stories that really stood out to me, Saint Francis of Assisi. When I was aborad in Europe we travled to Assisi and walked the same stone streets as Saint Francis of Assisi. Assisi was one of my favorite towns we travled to while in Europe and Saint Francis was one of my favorite saints we learned about.

I really liked how the stories portrayed this happy go lucky man who didnt need or want anything to be happy. Saint Francis is someone who we as humans should all strive to act like, "his love which was so big so wide that it wrapped the whole round world, binding all creastures more closely in a common brotherhood". I want to create a story that portrays someone as amazing as Saint Francis of Assisi, he changed lives even when he didnt mean too and I want my story to do the same.

The plot of the story was written very nicely, it was easy to follow and provided a lot of descriptive details. One of the sentences in the story that created a vivid image in my mind was, " the air was filled with music, a chorus of trills and quavers and carols of the wildest joy". I want to create similar sentences in my own story, making the reader feel as though they were there. I also want to incorporate animals into my story, I feel as though it appeals to many audiences and shows the reader the main character's heart. When writting my story I will refer to these stories for ideas on how to improve my own.
