Reading Notes: Jamaica Anansi Stories, Part A

After reading stories from the book of "Jamaica Anansi Storiesby Martha Warren Beckwith I learned what techniques I don't want to use when writing my own stories. I did not enjoy reading part A of these collection of stories. I thought that the stories were hard to follow and were written to be more complicated than they needed to be. I want to write a story that the readers connect with and enjoy reading. Ideally, I will create a story that the readers wont be able to put down because it is that good. One thing that I did like was that the stories incorporated a lot of history. I also liked that the stories involved animals in some way.

  1. Hi Olivia, I saw your note, and that dialect can be really weird... and those stories are pretty dark! You might enjoy the Anansi stories from West Africa: they are told in a more standard English, and there are other animal stories in there too, not just Anansi. So maybe instead of reading Part B of Jamaica this week, you could give West Africa a try and see what you find there: WEST AFRICA UNIT.
